Vaclav Havel, author, former Communist dissident, and Czechoslovakia’s first president after communism, said that he made a grave mistake in thinking that after 25 years the effects of communism would have been erased.
Over and over, Czechs identify skepticism as a wall they build up to keep distance between themselves and others. Also, because of decades of Communist rule, Czechs realize they are pessimistic and battle with mistrust. Their “Czech pride," as it is called, makes them leery of anything that is not run by Czech people. All of these cultural identifiers can quickly isolate people from each other.
TEAM’s involvement in the Czech Republic dates back to 1990, a few years before the peaceful split of Slovakia. Through much prayer and the Lord’s leading, TEAM leaders established connections with some Czech believers. Shortly after, a partnership was formed with the Czech Church of the Brethren (Církev Bratrská) and TEAM began sending missionaries to the Czech lands.
In 1999, our vision statement was “By God’s grace, we will establish 5 churches within existing and new ministry regions by the year 2009.” We praise God that 5 churches have been established. Now, God has been challenging us even more in advancing His Kingdom. In 2011, we adopted our new vision statement.
To work with national believers to establish culturally relevant reproducing churches.
20 new churches in 20 new communities by 2020
